The usefulness of a good spam filter

Everyone will recognize junk e-mail messages. Every day our mailbox fills up with e-mail that has not been requested. Often this concerns advertising from an (un) known sender, whether or not sent as a spam message, but unfortunately phishing messages or emails containing malware also arrive via e-mail. These messages not only cause annoyance because you can sometimes no longer find the relevant e-mail due to the multitude of e-mails, but they can also cause great damage to your computer system.

You may have been a victim yourself or you know someone who has fallen victim to so-called ` ransomware `. Using a malicious attachment to an email, the files on your computer (and all files on the network) are encrypted. You will then be asked to pay an amount that will give you the key to remove the encryption (wondering if they will do that at all).

Usually a spam filter is installed on the own computer and filters the e-mail messages after they have arrived on the mail server.
